These values bind us together as a family of God and are based on Biblical teaching recorded in Paul’s letter to the Colossians.
They do not replace our central doctrine but rather try to express what we believe in a way that gives structure to our day to day life and purpose for us as a church.
We are a family whose faith and lives are deeply rooted in Jesus and His word
Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT)
“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
We are a church where each person is encouraged and equipped to pursue a relationship with God, through Bible reading, prayer, sharing life, and worshipping together; our vision is of a community of people deeply rooted in Jesus and His Word.
Beauty from Brokenness
In Jesus, we are made whole - from something broken to something beautifully complete
Colossians 1:19-20 (MSG)
“Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.”
We are a welcoming church, a people and a place where broken and hurting people find a home and a family. We seek to live in the grace of God made known to us in the cross of Christ, and available to us in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. We are not perfect, but we are forgiven, and those who meet us are met with grace and mercy, not judgement.
Though a diverse community, we are, by grace, united in Christ
Colossians 3:11-15 (NLT)
“In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
We believe that we are a place for all people. The church is home to the housed and the homeless, the graduate and the school drop-out, rich and poor, young and old, British-born and immigrant. Our church is a Big Tent (Isaiah 54:2).
God has given everything for us - we want to love Him Wholeheartedly in return
Colossians 3:15-17 (NLT)
“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
We are a church where we believe the greatest commandment is “to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and to love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39). Our desire is that everything that we do, we do for Him. God deserves our very best – He has given His very best for us.
Taken on Trust
Taken on Trust and clothed with the love of Christ, we are a family who are learning to live and forgive together
Colossians 3:11-15 (NLT)
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.”
We believe that a significant key to our growing in unity is to commit to trusting relationships. We are a family, and sharing together requires forgiving one another and accepting responsibility for one another.
The Big Picture
We are all part of God’s Big Picture, key characters in His story.
Colossians 1:15-20 (NLT)
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”
We are all part of God’s Big Picture for humanity, key characters in His story.
We believe that the church is God’s plan for reaching ALL people. We are a church committed to seeing His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
Seeing the Invisible
Knowing that God is in control, we see that there is more to life than this
Colossians 3:1-4 (NLT)
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your[a] life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”
We are a people determined not to accept the status quo. God is greater than our small plans and we will encourage one another to put their hope in God. He has a plan for our lives, He has a plan for our families, He has a plan for our church, He has a plan for our city, He has a plan for our world. Our desire is to See the Invisible, so that which God has envisioned and planned for us may become a reality in our lives, our families, our church, our city and our world.
Larger and Stronger
We are committed to fruitful church growth, becoming Larger and Stronger together
Colossians 1:5-6 (MSG)
“The Message is as true among you today as when you first heard it. It doesn’t diminish or weaken over time. It’s the same all over the world. The Message bears fruit and gets larger and stronger, just as it has in you.”
Our desire is to be a church that is regularly reaching new people, seeing people saved and baptised, and becoming equipped to serve God through His church. Our vision is to be a church that is growing both Larger and Stronger together.
