I believe it is the United States currency that bears the motto, “In God We Trust.” Hopefully John and Sue can confirm this? (Or maybe even Freda or Faye!) In these times when trust in currency and possessions has taken a hit, maybe we need to re-examine where, or in whom, we put our trust?
When I was 16 years old, my mother bought me a Bible and wrote in the front cover those well-known words from Proverbs 3v5:
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
(It was the authorised version in those days!) A more up to date version would be:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
I was trying to think of another definition of ‘trust’ and the best I could come up with was “to put your confidence in!” In Psalm 118v8 we read:
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
In these days of uncertainty and fear, He is the one in whom we can trust, rely on and in whom we can put our complete confidence. On a recent Friday evening, Lois shared a song with Boom that has the title “Trust in You”. Why not use it to start your worship this morning? The video below will play through some songs to listen or sing along to, focusing on the theme of trust.
Chris
Last week, we heard Craig Groeschel talking about hope being contagious. We heard about how we need to replace panic with peace, anxiety with comfort and the “what-ifs” with faith in what God can do. Today’s message is titled “When you feel alone, anxious and afraid.” It is okay to feel emotional right now. Anxiety, fear, and isolation might be trying to take over your heart, but God’s Word tells us in James that when we draw near to God, He draws near to us. Listen to this hope-filled message to discover God’s faithfulness, unfailing love, and promises for the future.
